Prayer:

Was Moses capable of leading the nation of Israel to the land that God had promised the descendants of Abraham? Was he a skilled enough leader and could he make rational decisions? Korah (from the tribe of Levi) and over 250 other respected leaders in Israel did not think so. Moses just seemed to commit blunder after blunder in which God had to bail him out. He led the children of Israel to a location that trapped the people on all sides, with a sea in front and the Egyptian army behind. God had to open up a pathway through the sea to save the people from Pharaoh's army. Then while they were camped by Mount Sinai, Moses went alone up the mountain and was gone so long that the people believed he wasn't coming back. So the people naturally responded with what was familiar and created a god to which they could seek guidance and comfort. For this they were severely punished and many people died. Also, Moses set up camp in places with no food and no water. And the people complained and many suffered punishment and death. Again and again, God had to bail Moses out. Again and again, many people suffered. Korah and the others believed that Moses wasn't effectively leading the people, and they thought they could do a better job. However, Korah and the other men failed to comprehend that is was God, not Moses, who was in actuality leading the people; and the way that seemed foolish to them was fulfilling God's purposes. Because they were leaning on their own understanding these men failed to trust God, submit to Him and allow Him to define their path. (Proverbs 3:5-6)  Our Father, how often have we also failed to comprehend the wisdom of Your plan in our lives? How often have we complained about our circumstances? How often has our faith and faithfulness been put to the test? Help us dear Father, to humble ourselves and follow Your lead, no matter how foolish it appears to us and the people around us. I pray that we would trust in You with all our hearts and lean not on our own understanding; and I pray that in all our ways we would submit to Your, and that You would make our paths strait.
