Acts 12-14

When the Gentiles Heard This, They Were Glad

Acts 13:46-52 Then Paul and Barnabas grew bold and said, “It was necessary that the word of God should be spoken to you first; but since you reject it, and judge yourselves unworthy of everlasting life, behold, we turn to the Gentiles. For so the Lord has commanded us: ‘I have set you as a light to the Gentiles, that you should be for salvation to the ends of the earth.’” Now when the Gentiles heard this, they were glad and glorified the word of the Lord. And as many as had been appointed to eternal life believed. And the word of the Lord was being spread throughout all the region.

Paul and Barnabas were Jews, and they greatly desired that their Jewish brothers would hear and embrace the wonderful news about Yeshua. They said, "Let it be known to you, brothers, that through this one forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you, and by this one everyone who believes is justified from everything from which the law of Moses could not justify you." Many Jews were persuaded, along with many God-fearing proselytes. But others were filled with jealousy when they saw the crowds, and they began to contradict what Paul was saying by reviling him. Despite the resistance and the violent persecution toward them, the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit. And they continued to proclaim the good news all throughout the region making many disciples. May we also, dear Father, share the wonderful news about Yeshua, bringing hope to many about an inheritance imperishable, undefiled and unfading. (1 Peter 1:3-4) And may we likewise not be dissuaded by persecution but rather be filled with joy and the Holy Spirit so that we may share this beautiful hope of salvation.
