The Son of Man Did Not Come to be Served, But to Serve
Yeshua tried on several occasions to explain to His disciples that the time had come for Him to suffer, and to be killed, and to be raised the third day. This made no sense to them. They couldn't understand what He was telling them. Wasn't He was Messiah, the Son of God? Wasn't He soon going to sit upon the throne of glory? And were they not going to be with Him in His kingdom? Yes. But not immediately. They had yet to learn that in order to rule with Yeshua in His kingdom, they must first lay down their own ambitions and serve as He served; and they must suffer as He suffered. And now, even two thousand years later, we are still waiting for our Messiah to take His place upon the throne of glory. And like His disciples we too must lay down our own ambitions and serve as He served. Yeshua said that if anyone desires to follow Him they must deny themselves, and take up their cross. "For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it." (Mathew 16:24-28) Help us, dear Father, to lay down our lives that we may (like Yeshua) possess a servant's heart. Help us to die to self, that Yeshua may live His life in us, and through us be a beacon of light and hope to many. God speed the day when Yeshua comes to His throne of glory and gathers us to Him and welcomes us into our eternal home with You.
