Sing
for Joy to God Our Strength
Finally, because His people refused
to listen to God and heed His instruction, He gave them over to the stubbornness
of their heart to walk in their own devices. Yet, even then, the Lord expressed
compassion for them. “Oh, that My people would listen to Me, that Israel would
walk in My ways! I would quickly subdue their enemies and turn My hand against
their adversaries” (Psalms 81:11-14). Jesus expressed the same sentiment when
speaking of the inhabitants of Jerusalem in His day. He said, “Jerusalem,
Jerusalem, who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How
often I wanted to gather your children together, the way a hen gathers her
chicks under her wings, and you were unwilling. Behold, your house is being
left to you desolate! For I say to you, from now on you will not see Me until
you say, ‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’” (Matthew 23:37-39).
Dear Father, Let it not be said of us that we refuse to listen to You and heed
Your instruction. Give us a submissive spirit and a heart of humility, so that
we are not made to walk in our own devices. Thank You for Your mercy and grace.
May we walk on the path of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Blessed be the
name of the Lord forever!
