I Shall Not Want
I love the 23rd Psalm. It is one of the few Scriptures that I have been able to commit to memory. I have recited it in times of anxiety and fear. But also, in times of praise and thanksgiving. This Psalm says it all to me. When we, the sheep of His people don’t wander off and sometimes get lost… we are in the perfect and loving care of our Shepherd. When we are following Him, He supplies our needs. He protects us and provides for us and gives us peace. So, when we sense danger lurking, He covers us as a shield when we cry out to Him. It is when we go off on our own that we are vulnerable. Sometimes, because we are determined to take care of ourselves, He lets us.  Not a good idea. When I ask Him to guide me and cover me first thing in the morning, I am always amazed at how smoothly my day goes. But when I am distracted by many other things… I find myself fighting impossible battles I cannot win.  Dear Father, thank You for our loving Shepherd, Jesus our Lord. May we follow Him wherever He goes. Help us so that we do not wander off on our own. Help us to seek You first in our day so that we are not fighting impossible battles that on our own, we cannot win. Guide us on the path of righteousness for Your name’s sake. And keep us in Your loving care. Let us hear and follow Your voice. For then surely, goodness and lovingkindness will follow us all the days of our lives, and we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
