And
He Called the Twelve Together and Gave Them Power
After giving His disciples power and
authority over all demons and disease, Jesus sent them out to proclaim the
kingdom of God and to heal the people. So, the disciples went throughout the
villages, preaching the gospel and healing everywhere. After they returned,
they gave an account of all that they had done. Later, when Jesus was alone
with His disciples, He asked them who they thought He was. Peter said, “The
Messiah of God.” Jesus affirmed this and explained that as the Messiah, He must
suffer many things and be killed and raised the third day. And then He taught
them, “If anyone wishes to come after Me, he must deny himself, and take up his
cross daily and follow Me. For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for My sake, he is the one who will save it. For
what is a man profited if he gains the whole world, and loses or forfeits
himself? For whoever is ashamed of Me and My words, the Son of Man will be
ashamed of him when He comes in His glory, and the glory of the Father and of
the holy angels. Dear Father, may we be free from the deceitful trappings of
this world. Let them have no hold over us. May we deny the power of our flesh
and walk in the power of Your spirit. May Jesus be Lord of our lives. May we daily
take up our cross and follow Jesus wherever He goes. And when He comes in His
glory, may we receive His praise because in this life – we did not deny His
name. Praised be the name of our Father in Heaven and praised be the name of
His Son!
