Power
was Coming from Him and Healing Them All
Jesus chose twelve men to be His
apostles. And they followed Jesus wherever He went, learning from Him and
assisting Him in His ministry. Jesus’ ministry, however, created quite a stir
in Judea. His was a very different ministry from that of the scribes and
Pharisees who taught strict adherence to the traditions of the fathers. Jesus taught
that religion was meaningless if it did not express love and produce good
fruit. Jesus’ ministry was controversial and radical and troubled many. The
scribes and Pharisees were troubled because they perceived Jesus to practice
and preach disobedience to God and to make Himself equal to God. John the
Baptist heard about all these things and wondered if Jesus was really the Messiah
and he sent his disciples to Jesus for confirmation. Even Jesus’ own family were
concerned that maybe Jesus wasn’t quite right in the head. But they could not
deny Jesus’ miraculous power over disease and evil spirits; and even stormy
weather. Jesus assured John the Baptist that He was indeed the Messiah. This was
proven by the fulfillment of Isaiah’s prophecy. “The blind received sight, the
lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, and the deaf hear, the dead are raised up,
the poor have the gospel preached to them. Blessed is he who does not take
offense at Me.” Dear Father, may we have eyes to see and ears to hear. May our
hearts be cleansed, and may our feet walk in Spirit and truth. May we believe
in Your power over disease and evil spirits and be healed. And may we be known by the love and grace we extend to others and by the good and plentiful fruit that we produce.
