The Whole Crowd of the Disciples Began to Praise God
The people supposed that the kingdom of God was going to appear immediately. So, while on their way to Jerusalem, Jesus told them a parable about a nobleman who went to a distant country to receive a kingdom for himself. He would be gone a long time. When he departed, the nobleman gave his servants some money. He expected them to invest the money to increase its value while he was gone. And they would be rewarded when he returned. Jesus’ followers rightly interpreted that Jesus was the nobleman of the parable and that He was going away to receive a kingdom, and He would come back as King. When they saw Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey, they praised God joyfully with a loud voice, shouting: “Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord; Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!” Jesus departed to a distant place shortly after this triumphant entry into Jerusalem. He went away to receive His kingdom. He has not yet returned. But one day He will. And when He does, He will come in glory. He will be King of all kings. And He will receive His servants into His kingdom and reward them for the increase they produced. Dear Father, may we be profitable servants while we wait for the glorious coming of our Lord. May we bear much fruit. What a wonderful day it will be when Messiah Jesus finally returns. Blessed is He – our King – who comes in the name of the Lord; peace in heaven and glory in the highest!
