When All the People Saw it, They Gave Praise to God
Jesus told many parables. Each parable taught a very important principle, or lesson. But the Pharisees scoffed at His stories. Jesus told them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of men, but God knows your hearts; for that which is highly esteemed among men is detestable in the sight of God.” He told the Pharisees who were lovers of money a parable about a manager who was fired because of his love for money. Jesus said that no servant can serve two masters; he cannot serve both God and wealth. Jesus warned His listeners that it is very hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God. He taught that people cannot force their way into the kingdom. He said that whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will not enter it at all. The Pharisees asked Jesus when the kingdom of God was coming, and Jesus said, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed; nor will they say, ‘Look, here it is!’ or ‘There it is!’ For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.’” Dear Father, please help us to examine our hearts. Do we love You above all else? Do we seek first the kingdom? Show us what we treasure. Do we treasure Your precious Son? Do we treasure Your priceless Word? Do we value what is good and right and holy? May we humble ourselves and receive Your kingdom like a little child. Please Father, may Your Son live in us so that we may live each day as children of the kingdom, bringing honor to Your great name in everything we think, in everything we say and in everything we do.
