Leviticus 14-15

M’tzora – Person Afflicted with T’zara’at
When reading about the ceremony of the two birds with the lens of looking forward to the sacrifice of our Lord Jesus the Messiah, the comparison is quite remarkable. It is interesting that the death of the sacrificed bird was associated with blood and water. So was the death of Jesus. We are told in John 19:33 that when the soldiers came to Jesus and saw that he was already dead, they didn’t break his legs but one of the soldiers pierced his side with a spear, “and at once there came out blood and water.” It is also interesting that in the Leviticus passage, the live bird was dipped in the blood of the sacrificed bird and then set free. This seems incredibly symbolic for believers in Jesus, for we are only set free from the bondage of sin by the blood of Jesus (Ephesians 1:7) and we only have life because our Savior was raised and lifted up to heaven and His Spirit now lives in us (1 John 5:11-12).  “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before Him. In love He predestined us for adoption to Himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of His will, to the praise of His glorious grace, with which He has blessed us in the Beloved” (Ephesians 1:3-6).
