The Bread of Life
“What
shall we do that we may work the works of God?” the people asked. “This is the work
of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent” Jesus replied. The people
asked Jesus for a sign so that they may believe in Him. “What work do You
perform?” they asked Him. They wondered if He could give them bread out of
heaven, like the manna their fathers ate in the wilderness. Jesus told them that the bread from heaven
their fathers ate did not give them life. They still died in their sins. Jesus declared
that He was the true bread from heaven. “I am the bread of life” Jesus said. “I
am the living bread that came down out of heaven; if anyone eats of this bread,
he will live forever; and the bread also which I will give for the life of the
world is My flesh.” His disciples said, “This
is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?” And Jesus told them, “It is
the spirit that gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have
spoken to you are spirit and are life.” Dear Father, I know that my flesh
profits nothing. I know that my works – apart from You are nothing. I need the
bread from heaven. I need the life of Jesus living in me. I know that His are
the words of spirit and life. May I partake of the bread from heaven. May it be
my nourishment, may it be my sustenance. May it be my life. Thank You for the
true bread from heaven, the bread of life. May we eat of it and live forever!
