For
One is Your Leader, that is Christ
The Scribes and the Pharisees appeared
to be the icons of righteousness. They let everyone know this by their outwardly
religious piety and attire, and their expectations to be addressed as ‘Rabbi’ and
seated in places of honor. But, inwardly, they were hypocrites. Jesus was nothing
like them. He was outwardly humble and genuinely righteous. He not only kept the righteous laws of God
perfectly, he was kind to the oppressed and friends of sinners. Jesus told the
Scribes and Pharisees, “Do not be called ‘Rabbi,’ for One is your Teacher, and
you are all brothers. Do not call anyone on earth your father, for One is your
Father, He who is in heaven. Do not be called leaders; for One is your Leader,
that is, Christ.” How remarkable it is that the most powerful man on earth
humbled himself to serve a people so very undeserving of him; yet those who are
underserving demand authority they really have no right to and abuse whatever power
they possess over others. Dear Father, may
we follow the example of Messiah, who came not to exalt himself, but to serve. May
we be genuinely humble and walk in righteousness – bringing honor to Your great
name. May we not love the praise of others but seek to please You. And may we
look forward to the day when we shall see the coming of Messiah, the One who
comes in the name of the LORD. He is the blessed One!
