In Vain Do They Worship Me
The disciples had just witnessed Jesus feed five thousand people with five loaves of bread and two fish. Yet, later that evening, they were utterly astonished when they saw Jesus walking on the stormy sea near their boat in the middle of the night – “for they had not gained any insight from the incident of the loaves, but their heart was hardened. Sadly, Jesus encountered hardness of heart so very often in His ministry. The people of His hometown, and even His own family thought He was insane – or at best a charlatan. The Pharisees thought that Jesus was a heretic and that He performed miracles by a satanic power. However, many people did believe. And all who believed were healed and delivered. Dear Father, do I sometimes have difficulty believing because my heart is hardened? I pray that You will soften my heart so that I may believe.  I pray that I will trust completely in You and in Your love; in Your Son and in His saving grace; and in the validity and power of Your Word. I pray that I will not worship You in vain, but in Spirit and in truth. May we, Your children, be filled with Your presence and Your peace because we believe in You, in Your Word and in Your Son - our Messiah Jesus, our Lord and our King.
