Repent
and Believe in the Gospel
John the Baptist preached a baptism
of repentance for the forgiveness of sins, to prepare the hearts of the people
for the coming of Messiah. And many repented. So, when Jesus began to preach,
they were desirous for His message and His miracles. But some did not prepare
their hearts. They saw no need to repent and they rejected Jesus’ message. In
fact, many saw Jesus as a threat – particularly the Pharisees who were
entrenched in the traditions of their fathers and the Herodians who were a
political party known for their sensuality and corrupt living. Thus, they failed
to understand who the Messiah was, and how incredibly important He was for them
in every aspect of their lives present and future. Dear Father, thank you for
preparing our hearts so that we would repent, and receive Jesus and His
incredible message of hope. May we never be entrenched in our own traditions,
nor entrapped by corrupt living, so that we reject our Messiah and the
salvation He offers. May always we be ready to receive Him, so that we may
serve Him well in our present life and be received by Him in the beautiful life
to come.
