Tzav – Give an Order

I find it helpful to read about the offerings, ceremonies and systems in Leviticus, with the perspective that these are a shadow of things to come. We read in Hebrews that both the sacrificial system of ancient Israel, as well as the role of the High Priest, looked forward to our Lord Jesus the Messiah (Hebrews 10:1-10; 2:16-18; 7:26-28). When we view Scripture in the lens of “the big picture” the incredible redemption story of humankind flows beautifully, with consistency and continuity, from Genesis to Revelation. We see Jesus being represented with amazing detail in the ceremonies and festivals of ancient Israel, and we discover numerous prophecies about Jesus that have been undeniably fulfilled. It is through His Word that God shows us the unchangeableness of His purpose. And it is this hope that “we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, where Jesus has entered as a forerunner for us, having become a high priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek” (Hebrews 6:17-20). Dear Father, thank You for the miraculous gift of Scripture – from the words You wrote on stone with Your own hand, to the words You are writing on our hearts. Thank You, for revealing to us, the story of our redemption and for Your patience to fulfill all the promises and plans that You have established for Your children through Your Son Jesus. Thank You for Your love and Your faithfulness as we wait for that glorious day when we will be with You and Your Son forever!
