Behold,
He is Coming
Through Malachi, the LORD asked His
people, “If I am a father, where is My honor? And if I am a master, where is My
respect?” He said that His covenant with them was one of life and peace. But the
people showed disdain for the LORD in offering lame and diseased animals and in
withholding their tithes. The priests had turned aside from the way and had caused
many to stumble by their instruction. Husbands were dealing treacherously with
their wives and divorcing them. The Lord asked who would be able to endure the
day of His coming? “Who can stand when He appears? For He is like a refiner’s
fire and like fullers’ soap…He will purify the sons of Levi and refine them
like gold and silver, so that they may present to the Lord offerings in
righteousness.” He said that all the arrogant and every evildoer would be
burned up like chaff, but those who feared His name would be healed. A book of
remembrance was written before the Lord, for those who fear Him and esteem His
name. “They will be Mine,” says the Lord of hosts. Then, once again there will
be a distinction between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves
God and one who does not serve Him.” Dear Father, may our names be written in the
book of remembrance, for those who fear You. May we humbly honor and respect
You (which is Your due) and lovingly serve You (which is our privilege). May we
be the people of Your possession and forever dwell with You.
