He
Will be Great, and Will be Called the Son of the Most High
With much anticipation, many in
Israel were awaiting the prophesies about Messiah to be fulfilled. Confirmation
about His coming came in signs, dreams and angelic visitations to wise-men,
shepherds, prophets, a priest and his wife, and the future parents of the Son
of God. Mary, a descendant of King David, was a devout young woman engaged to
be married to a man named Joseph, also a descendant of David. She was visited
by the angel Gabriel. Gabriel told Mary that the Holy Spirit would come upon
her, and that she would conceive in her womb and bear a son. “And you shall
name Him Jesus” Gabriel told her. “He will be great and will be called the Son
of the Most High; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father
David; and He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and His kingdom will
have no end.” Dear Father, Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done. May we be ready
and willing for the return of Your Son, our Messiah and our King. How blessed the
world will be when our Savior comes back to earth, to reign as King of all
kings forevermore!
