As
You Have Done, It will be Done to You
Like Israel (descendants of Jacob),
Edom (descendants of Esau) were direct descendants of Abraham. Jacob and Esau
were the twin sons of Abraham’s son Isaac. But, while they were still in the
womb, God chose Jacob to be the line from which His holy people would descend.
God seemed to know, even before the birth of the twins, that Jacob would choose
to walk in the ways of the LORD, while Esau would reject them (Romans 9:10). As
the boys progressed through life, they faced various tests that revealed their
hearts. And, as true of all humankind, they both made mistakes. God warned that
He would punish them according to their ways (Obadiah 1:15; Hosea 12:2) and
Esau responded in pride and arrogance (Malachi 1:4) while Jacob repented and
sought the LORD’s favor (Hosea 12:4). What do our hearts reveal when tested by
various trials? Do we respond in humility and seek the LORD’s favor? Do we
wrestle with the LORD – refusing to let go, until He blesses us? (Genesis
32:26). How earnestly do we desire the things of the LORD? Do we love Him with
all our hearts, souls and might? Dear Father, thank You for calling us to be
Your children – the children of promise. Thank You for bringing us into Your
kingdom. What an amazing gift You offer! May we treasure it above all else. May
we seek You with all our hearts, souls and might. For Yours is the kingdom, and
the power and the glory forever.
