I Will Restore the Captivity of My People

The LORD sent Amos to the people of Israel to warn that He would spare them no longer. He said that He was about to put a plumb-line in the midst of them. And the religious places, practices and people who were not in line with the plumb-line would be destroyed or removed from the land. What was the plumb-line that the LORD expected his people to line up with? It was the standards of the LORD revealed in His Word. At the time that Amos prophesied, it appears that the people still had access to the Word of God. But there would come a time when there would be a famine of the Word, and in desperation, they would seek it, but would not find it. It would be too late by then, to get in line with the LORD’s standard. And they would suffer the repercussions of being out of line and would go into captivity. Yet, the LORD would not give up on His people. God would once again restore Israel to the land and rebuild their ruins – this time to the perfect standard of God, never to be removed from the land again. Dear Father, may we understand how Your message through Amos applies to us also. May we be in line with the plumb-line of Your perfect standards revealed in Your Word. May Your words, written on our hearts and minds, be the standard that guides us each day and keeps us always on the path of righteousness for Your name’s sake. Praised be the name of the LORD!
