Ki
Tissa – When You Take
The scene Moses saw when he came down from the mountain made him burn with
anger. The Israelites were eating and drinking and wildly dancing around an
image of a golden calf. They were shamefully out of control. Moses was gone
only 40 days and already the people had tired of waiting for God to show up. They
turned from the Almighty, all-powerful God to an inanimate object for their expression
of praise and adoration. How differently Moses perceived God than the children
of Israel – even Aaron! The Israelites viewed God as a golden image to dance
around. They expected God to respond to their demands and give them what they
wanted. But God was awesome and glorious and could not be comprehended in
physical terms. Moses understood this. Moses revered God and feared God and
honored His holy name. However, Moses also had a personal relationship with God.
The LORD spoke to Moses face to face just as a man speaks to his friend. Moses
established what true worship looked like and he set an example for the people.
Moses would meet with God in a private place and those who sought the Lord,
would arise and worship, each at the entrance of his tent when Moses was meeting
with the LORD. And when Moses came away from the meeting with God his face
shone. Dear Father, thank You for being our God. May we come humbly before You
with reverence, showing honor to Your great name. May we have a relationship with You that is
personal and interactive. May we glow after meeting with You and reflect Your
light to a dark and dying world. May we set an example for people in our lives
who do not know You or have a relationship with You. How blessed we are to be
Your children! Thank You. Praised be Your glorious and awesome Name!
