Turn
Your Foot from Evil
When Solomon was still quite young,
his father (King David) taught him about wisdom from the LORD
and the benefits of walking in the ways of the LORD. David taught Solomon
that wisdom was far more precious that silver and gold, fame and fortune. He said that wisdom would guard him and keep him on the path of the righteous. He
told Solomon to love wisdom – to prize her and exalt her. “She will honor you
if you embrace her… She will present you with a crown of beauty.”
Such was the impression of his father’s instructions that when he became king,
the one thing that Solomon asked from the LORD was wisdom. The LORD was pleased
with Solomon’s request and granted it. Dear Father, please grant us wisdom, so
that we may understand the things of God that are of far greater value and
consequence than all other knowledge and wisdom in the world. May we
impress upon our children the priceless value of Your wisdom and the benefits
of walking in Your ways so that when they are older, they will not depart from
them. Please fill us with Your spirit so that Your wisdom will guard
us and guide us, strengthen us and encourage us, and keep us on the path of the
righteous. And may our struggles and sorrows be forgotten, and our joy overwhelming
when we receive Wisdom's crown of beauty and the promise of life everlasting with You.
