Those Who Seek the Lord Understand

Proverbs 28 describes the motives and tactics of the wicked who rise in times of evil. They forsake the law. They do not understand justice. They increase their wealth by interest and usury. They lead the upright astray in an evil way. They conceal their own transgressions. They are laden with the guilt of human blood. They show partiality. They flatter. They stir up strife. Proverbs 28 also describes the response of the righteous. They seek the LORD for understanding. They keep His laws. They confess and forsake their sins. They fear the LORD, walk blamelessly and are faithful. And they trust in the LORD and not in their own hearts. Dear Father, please guard us from evil. Give us wisdom and knowledge so that we will understand what is true and good. Fill us with Your love so that we may be kind and extend the hand of compassion to all people. Help us to confess and forsake our sins, to be faithful and put our trust in You and not in ourselves. And help us to comfort others with this most awesome hope: that in His great mercy, God "has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you, who through faith are shielded by God’s power until the coming of the salvation that is ready to be revealed in the last time. In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials" (Peter 1:3-6). Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!
