Wisdom a House is Built
In the beginning of this chapter we
are given the description of a house built by wisdom. It is strong and filled
with precious and pleasant riches. At the end of the chapter is a description
of the field of a sluggard. It is completely overgrown. The stone wall around
it is broken and useless. Both these descriptions are examples of the fruit of
our labor or lack thereof. The tendency of
the sluggard is to envy the one who has the beautiful house built by wisdom and
excuse the condition of their own field. But tucked in the middle of this chapter
are these Proverbs: If you say, “See, we did not know this,” does He not
consider it who weighs the hearts? And does He not know it who keeps your soul?
And will He not render to man according to his work? (Proverbs 24:12) Know that
wisdom is thus for your soul; if you find it, then there will be a future, and
your hope will not be cut off (Proverbs 24:14). Dear Father, may we heed Your
exhortation and build our houses with wisdom. You have given us everything we
need: the understanding, knowledge, and wise counsel of Your Word, Your Son to
shepherd us and Your Spirit to transform us. Thank You. May we press on the
path of righteousness so that we may dwell with You and Your Son in Your glorious
house forevermore.
