Apples of Gold
This chapter examines the integrity
of our words in a variety of situations. It warns against exalting self in the
presence of the king (very important people), hastily going out and arguing your
case - revealing the secrets of others, boasting about your gifts falsely, bearing
false witness against your neighbor and backbiting. And it praises fitly spoken
words and a gently persuasive and soft tongue. What do our words reveal about
us? Do they reveal a boastful, proud and contentious spirit or a humble, kind
and gracious spirit? Dear Father, help me to humble myself so that I may honestly examine my own words. Help
me to speak words that heal and do not hurt. And please purify my heart so that all
my words are kind and gracious and fitly spoken – like apples of gold in
settings of silver. May I bring glory to You in all that I say and in all that I do.
