The Spirit of Man

Who can say, “I have cleansed my heart, I am pure from sin”? (verse 9) We get a pretty definitive answer to that question in 1 John 1:8 “If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us”.  Intellectually, we know this is correct. But sometimes, it is a challenge to see into our own hearts and to examine what our attitudes truly reveal. God sees though. He searches the innermost parts of our beings and discerns the intents of our hearts (verse 27). By His Word the LORD can help us to discern the thoughts and intentions of our hearts (Hebrews 4:12). And through the washing of His Word and the purifying power of His spirit our hearts are cleansed. Dear Father, please cleanse my heart. Help me to humble myself before You so that I will receive Your instruction and correction. Fill me with Your righteousness so that I may not sin. Help me to hear the small voice that guides me and give me the strength to overcome the pulls of my flesh. May the innermost attitudes and emotions and thoughts of Your children be cleansed so that we may reflect Your perfect love in all our relationships and bring honor to Your great name!
