B’shallach
– After He Had Let Go
The events surrounding ancient Israel’s departure from Egypt and their journey
through the wilderness are analogous to our own spiritual departure from sin
and journeys of sanctification. In his letter to the Corinthians, the apostle
Paul wrote, “For I do not want you to
be unaware, brethren, that our fathers were all under the cloud and all passed
through the sea; and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea;
and all ate the same spiritual food; and all drank the same spiritual drink,
for they were drinking from a spiritual rock which followed them; and the rock
was Christ” (I Corinthians 10:1-4). Like the children of Israel, we are saved
by the blood of the Lamb, we are baptized and led by the spirit of God, we are
fed bread from heaven and given drink from the spiritual rock which is
Christ. And like the children of Israel, we are met with tribulations to test
our hearts. The apostle Paul exhorted the Corinthians to learn from the examples of Israel - to flee idolatry and to
avoid evil cravings and grumbling. Paul encouraged them that God is faithful
to provide a way of escape from all the temptations they would encounter (1 Corinthians 10:5-14). Dear Father, thank You for Your precious Word - with examples preserved for us to
guide us as we journey through life. Thank You for Your precious Son, by whose blood we are saved and by whose life we are redeemed. Thank You for Your precious Spirit that transforms us. And thank You for Your amazing love, that we may be called the children of God!
