A Fountain of Life
There is one who speaks rashly like the thrusts of a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing (Proverbs 12:18). Words can cut deep. They can be very painful and leave lasting scars. They can discourage and cripple. But just as there is power in words to hurt, there is also power in words to heal. And that is the beautiful thing. Relationships can be restored with words. And people can change another person’s life for the better with words. Words can motivate and words can encourage. Dear Father, help me to examine the effect of my words. Do they hurt or do they heal? Help me to understand the power of my words. Do they build up or tear down? Do they encourage or discourage? Please help me to examine my heart, for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). Do I share Your love or lack Your love? Please, Father, create in me a pure heart so that I may express Your love through my words. May we, Your children, bless and not curse others with our words (James 3:9-10). And may the world know that we are Yours by the love we have one for another (John 13:35).
