After forty years in a foreign land doing the simple job of caring for sheep, God appeared to Moses in a burning bush and commissioned him to lead Israel out of Egypt. Perhaps there had been a time, when he was younger, stronger, more influential and much more confident, that he believed he was the one whom God was choosing to save His people (Acts 7:17-35). But that was in a different life…before he killed the cruel taskmaster he witnessed beating a Hebrew slave; before he became a stench to his own Hebrew brothers after killing the taskmaster when he was just trying to help; and before he became a fugitive on the run. Now, standing before the burning bush, Moses gave God a list of reasons why he wasn't the man for the job. He said that he wasn't qualified enough, credible enough or eloquent enough for this awesome responsibility. But he was. God had prepared Moses for the job by orchestrating every event in his life; from the earliest years in his nurturing Hebrew home through the upbringing, education and training in his royal Egyptian home, and then finally through these last years of living the humble life of a shepherd. Moses became highly qualified and meek, thus precisely the man for the job. Dear Father, thank You for the account of this incredible man. What an amazing life he led! What an amazing heart he had! And what an amazing legacy he left! How blessed we are that we can come to know You through the legacy he left Your people! How blessed we are to be Your people - the children of the living God!
