The Book of the Law

The people were contrite when they discovered how greatly they had sinned, and they wept. This is exactly the response God is looking for from His children (Isaiah 66:2). But Nehemiah, Ezra and the Levites who were explaining the Book of the law told the people not to weep. They said, "Do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength" (Nehemiah 8:10). I love this… the joy of the Lord is our strength. Joy is a powerful emotion. But so is guilt. Guilt can bring us to a place of repentance, and so for that reason, it is useful. But guilt can also be debilitating if a person remains there. It is imperative to get past the guilt so that we may rejoice in the salvation of the Lord. "The Lord is my strength and song, He has become my salvation" (Psalms 118:14). Dear Father, thank You for Your precious Word. Thank You for scholars and teachers who can explain Your Word to us. Thank You for bringing us to a place of repentance. And thank You for Your love and Your amazing grace!  "Blessed be the Lord, because He has heard the voice of my supplication. The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in Him, and I am helped; therefore my heart exults, and with my song I shall thank Him. Save Your people and bless Your inheritance; be their shepherd also, and carry them forever" (Psalms 28:6-9).
