Numbers 13-15

Sh’lach – Send

Numbers 13:1-2 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, “Send men to spy out the land of Canaan, which I am giving to the children of Israel; from each tribe of their fathers you shall send a man, every one a leader among them.”

When the twelve spies returned from the land of Canaan, only Joshua and Caleb gave an encouraging report. They said that with the help of God, Israel could confidently take the land. Yet, because the other ten spies had spoken so disparagingly about fortified cities, strong people and terrifying giants; the children of Israel had become fearful, angry and distraught, and had conspired to replace Moses with someone else to take them back to Egypt. The camp was filled with turmoil. Suddenly the glory of the LORD appeared in the tabernacle of meeting before all the children of Israel. The LORD's wrath had been ignited. Moses came before the LORD to intercede on behalf of the people, and after some discussion, mercy was granted and the nation of Israel was spared. However they who had complained were not allowed to enter the promised land to receive their inheritance. They were destined to die in the wilderness. Dear Father, let not our hearts be hardened by sins deception that we should not enter Your rest. Let us not fall by following the same pattern of disobedience as they in the wilderness but let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering - for You who promised are faithful. Bless us Father, with endurance, so that after we have done Your will, we may receive the promise. May it be that we are not of those who draw back to destruction, but rather of those who believe to the saving of the soul. (Hebrews 10:36-39)
