Luke 19-21

The Son of Man has Come to Seek and to Save that Which Was Lost

Luke 19:8-10 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he also is a son of Abraham; for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.”

Pharisees and scribes complained that Yeshua was often in the company of tax collectors and sinners. He ate meals with them and even lodged in their homes. This was not something that the religious authorities expected the Messiah to do. Responding to their complaint Yeshua told them that Messiah came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. (Luke 5:31) He said that like the shepherd who goes after a lost sheep and rejoices when it is found; like the woman who searches everywhere for a lost silver coin and celebrates when she finds it; and like the Father who throws a huge party for his prodigal son who just returned home; so is the celebration in heaven when a lost but precious soul like Zacchaeus repents and receives salvation. Our Father, thank You for Your Son Yeshua, whom You sent to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free, to proclaim the year of the Lord's favor. (Luke 4:18-19) Salvation is found in no one else, there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved. (Acts 4:12) Today, because of Yeshua, salvation has come to this house.
