The Christ
John
11:25-27 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who
believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live. And whoever lives and
believes in Me shall never die. Do you believe this?” She said to Him,
“Yes, Lord, I believe that You are the Christ, the Son of God, who is to
come into the world.”
It had been revealed by the Holy Spirit to a just and devout man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon, that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord's Messiah. (Luke 2:25-35) When the parents brought the newborn child to the temple as according to the custom of the law, it was revealed to Simeon that this child, Yeshua, was the Messiah. He took up the child and blessed God saying, "My eyes have seen Your salvation which You have prepared for the face of all peoples, a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of Your people Israel." This was just one confirmation of many that Yeshua was the Messiah who came to fulfill the prophecies about Him. However, when Yeshua's time had come to preach and do the works of Messiah, many rejected Him. For Yeshua didn't conform to their expectations. He didn't establish His throne and reign as king, but rather suffered by
the hands of men, and this troubled his followers. (Luke 24:13-26) He didn't conform to the traditions of the fathers which troubled the scribes, the lawyers and Pharisees. They saw the works He did in His Father's name, works that bore witness that He was Messiah, but still they rejected Him. (John 12:37-41) Yeshua told them, "If I do not do the works of My Father, do not believe Me; but if I do, though you do not believe Me, believe the works, that you may know and believe that the Father is in Me and I in Him." (John 14:9-11) Dear Father, let not our eyes be blinded nor our hearts hardened, that we may believe that Yeshua is the Christ. For he who believes in Yeshua believes in You, the One who sent Him. And He who sees Yeshua sees You. Yeshua spoke not on His own authority; but as You gave Him a command, what He should say and speak. And Your command is everlasting life. (John 12:44-50) Let us therefore believe that we also may have everlasting life. (John 6:47)
