Seek Righteousness, Seek Humility
Zephaniah prophesied to the people of Judah in the days of Josiah. He warned them of God's punishment because of their violence, deceit and complacency. But they refused to be corrected, so the wrath of God came upon them. Jerusalem was destroyed and the people of Judah were taken captive. Zephaniah spoke also of a future day when a remnant people would be brought back to a restored and glorious Jerusalem. They would be a meek and humble people. They would trust in the name of Yehovah. They would do no unrighteousness, they would speak no lies. The LORD would be in their midst and they would serve Him with one accord. In that day Yehovah will rejoice over Jerusalem with gladness, He will quiet her with His love, He will rejoice over her with singing. He will create Jerusalem to be a delight and its people a joy. He will rejoice over Jerusalem and delight in His people; the sound of weeping and of crying will be heard in it no more. (Isaiah 65:18-19) Sing, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart, O daughter of Jerusalem! The LORD has taken away your judgments, He has cast out your enemy. The King of Israel, the LORD, is in your midst; You shall see disaster no more.
