Matthew 17-18

This Is My Beloved Son, In Whom I Am Well Pleased, Hear Him!

Matthew 17:1-5 Now after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John his brother, led them up on a high mountain by themselves; and He was transfigured before them. His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light. And behold, Moses and Elijah appeared to them, talking with Him. Then Peter answered and said to Jesus, “Lord, it is good for us to be here; if You wish, let us make here three tabernacles: one for You, one for Moses, and one for Elijah.” While he was still speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them; and suddenly a voice came out of the cloud, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Hear Him!”

Besides Peter, John and James were the only other disciples before whom the transfiguration of Yeshua's heavenly glory was displayed. What a privilege this was for them! It is understandable that they felt quite special. Perhaps this honor led them to believe that they would be given prominence in Yeshua's kingdom. How natural it would be for any of us to make this assumption. Yeshua had to remind them though, that the greatest in heaven are those who humble themselves while on earth. He told them, "Unless you are converted and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven." Dear Father, I pray that I would humble myself and become like a little child. I pray that as a little child expects and receives constant care from their parents, I would also expect and receive all provision and protection from You. And just a a little child delights to be with their parent, I pray that I would delight always to be in Your presence. Just as a little child has complete confidence in the word of their parents, I pray that my confidence in Your word is absolute. And just as a little child knows how much their parents love them, I pray that I will always trust in Your unconditional love. May we not seek for prominence and position, but like little children may we love You because You are our Father and You love us with a faithful and everlasting love. (Jeremiah 31:3)
