This reading illustrates some of the horrific things humans are capable of. Could it not be said of the human experience in general (since the beginning of time) that every man does what is right in his own eyes? In all reality, how often are humankind unified in their beliefs and practices? And even with the guidance of the Holy Scriptures, are we who claim to be the people of God truly unified? There are hundreds of differing Biblical interpretations and commentaries. There are countless religions and denominations. Each proclaiming that they possess the truth. Oh, dear Father, please unify Your people. Embody us with Your Spirit so that we can understand all things from Your perspective. Create in us pure hearts. Help us to love what You love and hate what You hate. Give us eyes to see and ears to hear and a heart that understands. Jesus is the truth, the light and the way. Please transform us all into the image of Your Son so that we may share in His glory and dwell in unity forever with You.
