Acharei Mot – After the Death
The Lord spoke to Moses saying, “I am the Lord your God. You shall not do what is done in the land of Egypt where you lived, nor are you to do what is done in the land of Canaan where I am bringing you; you shall not walk in their statutes. You are to perform My judgments and keep My statutes, to live in accord with them; I am the Lord your God. So, you shall keep My statutes and My judgments, by which a man may live if he does them; I am the Lord” (Leviticus 18:1-5). The Lord gave us His law to not only guide us, but to protect us from the ways and seduction of death. He gave us His law so that we may have life. The apostle John wrote that everyone who is a sinner goes against the law, for sin is going against the law. But if we are the children of God; if we desire to be like Him, we will make ourselves holy, even as he is holy. “My little children” John wrote, “let no man take you out of the true way: he who does righteousness is upright, even as He is upright” (John 3:1-11). Dear Father, thank You for Your perfect and righteous ways. They teach us how to love You and how to love our neighbors. Help us to walk on the path of righteousness for Your name’s sake. And help us to become holy, because You are holy (1 Peter 1:16).
