Does the Almighty Pervert What is Right?
According to Bildad’s logic, the trauma that Job was experiencing was God’s judgment reserved for the wicked. But Job knew that he was not wicked. And it didn’t make sense to Job that God would treat the righteous and wicked in the same manner, for if that were true, what would be the point of living a righteous life (Job 9:29)?  Didn’t God promise to bless His people for walking in the way of righteousness (Deuteronomy 28)? Yet how could Job reconcile his expectation of God’s protection and blessing with such severe trials? How blessed we are that Scripture includes the story of Job! For Job had to process through the very same questions we all do when hit with similar traumas that shake our world and bring us down. Dear Father, thank You for sharing the story of Job with us. Thank You for giving us a look into Job's struggle to comprehend Your promises in the face of severe trials. And thank You for the many Scriptures that explain the reason for trials. (Jeremiah 17:10, Acts 14:22, Romans 8:18, etc.) May we remember (when going through severe trials) that it is through many tribulations that we enter the kingdom of God and that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. Help us to wait on You and trust in You to bring us through our trials.
