Who
Can Refrain from Speaking
A spirit that made his skin crawl,
passed by Eliphaz in a vision one night and a voice spoke to him saying, “Can a
man be pure before his Maker? He puts no trust even in His servants; and
against His angels He charges error. How much more those who dwell in houses of
clay, whose foundation is in the dust, who are crushed before the moth!” (Job
4:17-21) Who was this spirit? And what was the message he was conveying to
Eliphaz? And for what purpose? I am reminded of the encounter that Eve had with
the serpent in the Garden of Eden, because in a similar way doubt is cast on
the character of God. Is God a cruel
Master? Does He care about His servants, His angels, humankind? Can mere humans have a relationship with the Almighty God? Dear Father, may we never doubt
Your love for us! Even in our times of trial when our hope is faltering, may we
remember that You are compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding
in lovingkindness and truth (Exodus 34:6) and that as a Father has compassion
on His children, so You have compassion on us (Psalms 103:13). May we reject
any voice that casts doubt on Your goodness and love. For You wait on high to have compassion on us for You are a God of justice; how blessed are all those who long for Him (Isaiah 30:18). Praise the Lord! Oh give
thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for His lovingkindness is everlasting
(Psalms 106:1).
