The
Beginning of Wisdom
I wondered about the seven pillars
of wisdom, so I googled it to see if there was a common analysis…but I didn’t
find one. Instead, I found a variety of perspectives. The seven pillars could simply represent completeness
or perfection. Or perhaps the seven pillars represent the seven attributes of
wisdom expressed in Proverbs 8: prudence, knowledge and discretion, fear of God,
counsel, sound wisdom, understanding, power.
Another perspective is that the pillars represent James’ description of wisdom
from above: pure, peaceable, gentle, reasonable, full of mercy and good fruits,
unwavering, without hypocrisy (James 3:17-18). Yet another perspective is that
the seven pillars represent the beatitudes: humble, mournful,
meek, seekers of righteousness, merciful, pure, peacemaker (Matthew 5:3-12). Well, these are all
wonderful attributes that the Spirit of God bears in us when we truly invite
wisdom into our hearts and heed her instructions. Thank You Father, for the strong and enduring pillars
of wisdom that protect our hearts. May we, Your children, make wisdom our home. May we forsake our folly and live, and proceed in the way of understanding as we journey through life to our final destination of glory with You.
