My Servant Job
“There was no one like Job on earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil” (Job 1:8). But did Job fear God for nothing? Satan believed that Job was only blameless and upright because God had put a hedge of protection around him and his family. He argued that if God removed His protection so that Job would suffer great losses and pain – Job would surely curse God. Satan was convinced that if put to the test – Job would become an enemy of God.  So, God accepted Satan’s challenge and allowed Job to be put to the test. Thus suddenly, Job’s life was forever changed by tragedies totally unexpected. And the compounding and relentlessness of his trials brought Job down to a low he had not experienced before. And he despised his life. What was the point of living when everything that mattered was destroyed and when the pain and suffering is too great? Perhaps there comes a time in everyone’s life when this question must be answered – “do we fear God for nothing?” Dear Father, thank you for the record of Job’s test of faith. Help me to learn from the process Job went through to answer the question – “Do I fear God for nothing?” Help me to examine my own heart and help me to learn more about my own relationship with you as I read through the book of Job. And may those who are suffering great loss and pain make it through to the other side of their trials to witness Your glory in their deliverance and restoration. “Blessed be the name of the LORD” (Job 1:21).
