Each page in this Daily Bible Reading Journal provides sections for a daily prayer list, a short summary for each chapter in the scheduled reading, and your personal reflection and prayer on the scheduled reading.
The daily readings in this Bible reading journal are scheduled to coincide with:
- The Torah Portions read each Sabbath. In Judaism, the first five books of the Bible are known as the Torah. The Torah is traditionally divided into 54 portions. When you read the Torah Portion in this schedule, you participate with multitudes of people throughout the world in reading that same passage. The Torah Portions are read over the course of a year, beginning just after the Feast of Tabernacles (also known as Sukkot), and are read each Sabbath until completed one year later. On occasion, a “double portion” reading may be scheduled for one Sabbath day.
- The rest of the Bible on the days remaining in the week beginning with the book of Joshua. This schedule strives for a flow of thought and context while accenting the important Biblical events and days:
- Proverbs beginning on January 1st (at the start of the Gregorian New Year)
- Esther on Purim, a Jewish holiday that is still celebrated today
- Matthew, Mark, Luke and John as the Feast of Passover approaches
- Song of Songs on the Sabbath during the Feast of Passover
- Psalms during the count of 50 days between Passover and Pentecost, (the counting of the Omer)
- Ruth on the Day of Pentecost
- Acts after the Day of Pentecost, continuing with the writings of the apostles
- Jonah on the Day of Atonement
- The Later Prophets as the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot) approaches
- Ecclesiastes during the Feast of Tabernacles (Sukkot)
By reading and journaling through the Bible each year we are better able to embrace the intent of Scripture. The intent of the Law was not meant to control or condemn us but rather teach us how to love God with all our hearts and to love our neighbors as ourselves. (Luke 10:27) The Law is good because it comes from God. All things that come from God are good – there is no darkness in Him. While reading Scripture each day we are nourished spiritually and experience His peace and His joy as we reach up to hold His hand to help us through the day. How awesome is this blessing!
